Europe
and the Commonwealth of Independent States is a region that
suffers from the threat of natural disasters in combination
with political unrest. Additionally, the region is still
suffering from the 1986 nuclear power plant explosion in
Chernobyl. The
Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent
States (RBEC) administers the UNDP’s programmes
in Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent
States (CIS), playing an important role in the transition
process through empowering people, organizations and governments
to promote sustainable human development. |
