Jordan
is a disaster-prone country that is particularly susceptible to
earthquakes, droughts, and floods. Earthquakes occur in the Jordan
Valley rift area, especially in the mid-section of the Dead Sea.
Jordan also experiences flash flooding, forest fires and occasionally
severe snowfall. The Jordan Valley is part of the great rift extending
to North Africa, and it is expected that it will be more exposed
to earthquakes in the coming decades. Natural disasters are a
major human and developmental issue in the region. Jordan is also
exposed to a wide range of transportation and industrial hazards.
