    This publication documents the key accomplishments of the Global Fund in Zimbabwe and planned programme activities in the years ahead. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) have signed Phase 2 of the Round 8 Grants for HIV/AIDS, TB, Health Systems Strengthening and the Single Stream of Funding for Malaria. The GFATM has committed a total of US$ 293.6 million for the 4 grants to be implemented over a period of 3 years, up to 31 December 2014.

In Zimbabwe, malaria is a major public health problem and is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the country. About half of the population of 12,973,808 million (2012 Preliminary Population Census) is at risk of contracting malaria infections annually.

The GFATM has committed a total of US$ 293.6 million for the four grants to be implemented over a period of 3 years (2012-2014).

UNDP Zimbabwe is supporting the Government of Zimbabwe in mobilising a multi-sectoral response to the pandemic.Through its management of Grants such as the Global Fund, the goal is to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS by addressing both the causes and impact of the pandemic on Human Development.
