HIV and AIDS

UNDP Zambia is a temporary Principal Recipient (PR) for GFTAM grants and is legally responsible for the grant implementation, the financial and programmatic management of the grant financed activities, including all procurement under the projects. Consequently, UNDP as PR is seeking to reduce the overall risk for the oversight of grant funds, improve the flow of funds into the country and strengthen the national capacity within the country for improved health service delivery.
UNDP Zambia currently  manages the following Projects:

  • Round 7 TB – Zambia Tuberculosis (TB) Program Stop TB Strategic Plan Implementation Update

The aim of the project is to strengthen the national capacity for the response to TB by improving access to both first line and second line anti-TB drugs and facilitate diagnosis through the procurement of the necessary drugs and related diagnostic supplies. The project is supporting the National TB Program (NTP) to strengthen its monitoring and evaluation system. Furthermore, it seeks to increase service delivery capacity among partners by supporting provincial and national technical meetings

  • Round 8 and 10 HIV – Scaling-up prevention and impact mitigation and strengthening health systems; and Securing and Sustaining Equitable Access to ART commodities and services

These projects aim to enhance the effectiveness of the national HIV and AIDS programme by maintaining and expanding treatment. The Round 10 Project is implemented at the same time with the Round 8 Project. Essentially, they are intended to ensure continuation and scale-up of interventions initiated under the Round 4 Project, whose primary objective was to scale-up access to antiretroviral therapy as well as maintain blood security.

  • Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS

Implemented by the National AIDS Council (NAC) and the Ministry of Health, the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS aims to support a nationally-owned, well-coordinated and rights-based multi-sectoral response to HIV&AIDS at all levels in Zambia.
