UN Resident Coordinator Stefan Priesner presents his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan
Today, Mr. Stefan Priesner presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr. Abdulaziz Kamilov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan as Resident Coordinator of the United Nations and Resident Representative for the United Nations Development Programme.
Stefan Priesner delivered a letter from the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, detailing his appointment in Uzbekistan.
After presenting his credentials, the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator together with the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan discussed current developments and prospects for strengthening bilateral relations.
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of UN presence in Uzbekistan. During these two decades the UN has been actively engaged in combating nuclear proliferation, in overcoming socio-economic and environmental problems in the region, fighting against international terrorism and drug trafficking, and more.
The UN Joint Programme, which is currently working in regions of Uzbekistan will assist the country’s development during the following two years. As part of the Development Assistance Framework, the UN Joint Programme will support economic well-being, improved social services, sustainable environmental development and good governance.
The parties also exchanged views regarding specific international and regional issues.
Before this appointment, Stefan was Country Director for UNDP in Bangladesh from 2008-2012 and served as Deputy Resident Representative Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2004-2008. He was the Deputy Chief in Nepal for the Sub-regional Resource Facility (SURF) for South and West Asia from 2001-2004 and the Deputy Chief a.i. for the SURF in Trinidad and Tobago during 2001. He served in Bhutan from 1997-2001 as Programme Officer and subsequently as Governance and Rule of Law Specialist.
Mr. Priesner holds a Master in Law from the University of Vienna and a Master of Arts in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University, Washington.
