María Eugenia Casar of Mexico Appointed Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
New York, USA - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the appointment of María Eugenia Casar of Mexico as Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
“Maria Eugenia Casar has impressive management experience and a renowned career in finance and accounting,” said UNDP Administrator Helen Clark. “All of us at UNDP welcome her to our global development family.”
Ms. Casar succeeds Rebeca Grynspan, who has taken up a new assignment as Secretary General of SEGIB. The Secretary-General is grateful to Ms. Grynspan for her leadership and advocacy on issues such as inequality, social cohesion, and the empowerment of women during her term with UNDP.
Ms. Casar has had a rich and distinguished career, with wide-ranging management experience in both the private and public sectors (national and international) and in academia.
She is currently serving as Assistant Secretary-General, Controller and Representative of the Secretary-General for the investments of the assets of the UNSJPF.
Prior to this, she served as Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director for Resource Management and Accountability and Chief Financial Officer (2009-2011), and earlier as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Finance and Budget (2004-2006) at WFP in Rome.
She was National Treasurer of Mexico (2006-2009); Chief Financial Officer, Banco Nacional de Servicios Financieros (2001-2004); Deputy General Director, Banking Sector, Ministry of Finance (1999-2001); and Deputy Vice President, National Banking Commission in Mexico (1995-1999).
She began her career as a Professor and was Head of the School of Accounting and Administration, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
Ms. Casar holds a degree in Public Accounting as well as a Masters of Business Administration from ITAM, Mexico.
