Malaysia to host UNDP Global Center on Public Sector AccountingJul 18, 2011
Putrajaya – The Government of Malaysia has agreed today to host the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Global Shared Services Centre on International Public Sector Accounting Standards to enhance the organization’s transparency and accountability.
The Global Shared Services Centre will support UNDP’s adoption in January 2012 of independently-developed financial reporting principles called International Public Sector Accounting Standards.
The Centre will provide accounting services to UNDP’s global operationsand promote knowledge sharing and training sessions, supporting development activities in over 176 countries and territories.
The joint announcement was made today by YBhg Tan Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz bin Wan Abdullah, Secretary General to the Treasury, Ministry of Finance Malaysia and RebecaGrynspan, United Nations Under Secretary General andUNDP Associate Administrator.
“Malaysia has recently identified and prioritized the professional services sector, especially financial services, as one of its most important contributors to the future growth of the Malaysian economy,” RebecaGrynspansaid.
“UNDP’s Global Shared Service Centre will also directly contribute to Malaysia’s aim of becoming a provider of complex and professional financial services.”
