As the 2013 UN General Assembly for the first time convenes a special meeting on the issue of children and adults with disabilities, UNDP and UNICEF, along with the Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities (GPcwd), are urging Member States, UN agencies, civil society groups and other partners to engage more with people with disabilities themselves in the crafting of global agendas.

UN Broadband Commission releases first global report on ‘broadband and gender’: 200 million fewer women online
A new report released today by the Broadband Commission Working Group on Broadband and Gender reveals a ‘significant and pervasive’ ‘tech gap’ in access to information and communication technologies (ICTs). Globally, the report estimates that there are currently 200 million fewer women online than men, and warns that the gap could grow to 350 million within the next three years if action is not taken.

UN survey of 10,000 men in Asia and the Pacific reveals why some men use violence against women and girls
A UN study of 10,000 men in Asia and the Pacific, released today, found that overall nearly half of those men interviewed reported using physical and/or sexual violence against a female partner, ranging from 26 percent to 80 percent across the sites studied. Nearly a quarter of men interviewed reported perpetrating rape against a woman or girl, ranging from 10 percent to 62 percent across the sites.

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon presented today a new report “A Million Voices: The World We Want”. The report summarizes the findings from public consultations and surveys that engaged more than 1.3 million people in all 193 UN Member States since August 2012 in an effort to identify priorities for the post-2015 development agenda that will succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
