The United Nations in Sierra Leone has said today that an additional $18 million is needed to bolster the Government of Sierra Leone’s efforts in halting the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The disease has now spread to 12 of 13 districts in the country with a cumulative total of more than 800 EVD cases and 350 deaths.

An unprecedented research project, Sex Work and Violence: Understanding Factors for Safety and Protection, received the first Robert Carr Research Award at the 20th International AIDS Conference, in Melbourne, Australia. The award was established in honor of Dr. Robert Carr, who advocated for human rights as central to the response to the HIV epidemic.
