@HelenClarkUNDP - #1 Goal is 2 Eradicate Xtreme Poverty
New York - My number one goal as Administrator of UNDP is to work for the elimination of extreme poverty, said United Nations top development chief Helen Clark (@HelenClarkUNDP on Twitter) during her live Twitter chat today to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on Monday, October 17th.
Twitter users from around the world asked her a wide range of questions, including tweets on the Arab Spring, climate change, women’s empowerment, and global health issues.
Asked by @mattjones whether Helen Clark agreed that ensuring political freedoms encourages governments to work on poverty, she tweeted in reply, “Definitely - the wider the #democratic space, the more governments are likely to be responsive to citizens.”
Twitter user @Alessandrabravi asked what UNDP’s main message is for the upcoming global meeting in June to address sustainable development, known as Rio+20, to which Helen Clark responded that economic and social development must be in harmony with environmental sustainability.
She also launched UNDP’s new campaign Take #OneAction Against Poverty, a photo contest on Facebook aiming to show the people behind all these small and big actions that help end poverty world-wide. “People are right up on the key issues and want to talk about them!” said Helen Clark after the chat.
The chat included tweets in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.

- #SDG11: SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES - 07 days to Rio 2016 (português abaixo) "I studied architecture to provide housing and spaces for all, but the market sometimes complicates things. We have to survive, don't we? I came from Switzerland to live a new experience in Rio de Janeiro. I like to see and meet new people. To exchange ideas inspires me. Living here helps me to meet new sides of society - and the carioca is very open, eases the adaptation. Architecture is the organization of space, then the architect has the power to open ways to others. We need to fulfill our role effectively. The architecture was made for people. Our most important mission is to make a difference in their lives." – Barbara Iseli, 37 anos #humansofrio #humansofmyworld #rio2016 #arquitetura PNUD Brasil United Nations Development Programme - UNDP UNDP in Latin America and the Caribbean ONU Brasil SDG Action Campaign UN-HABITAT TETO Brasil 11 hours ago
