Helen Clark: Japan to strengthen development partnership with UNDP

Tokyo – Japan’s Prime Minister Naoto Kan and UNDP Administrator Helen Clark agreed to further strengthen their work to promote development efforts globally and to support reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan and Pakistan during Helen Clark’s two day official visit to Japan from 29 November to 1 December.

In addition to meeting Prime Minister Kan, Helen Clark also held official meetings with Foreign Minister Seji Maehara and Senior Vice Minister of Finance Fumihiko Igarashi.

In addition to the meetings with government leaders, Helen Clark delivered a speech at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives and discussed UNDP and Japan’s partnership at the ODA Special Committee of the House of Councillors.

This is the second visit to Japan for Helen Clark as UNDP Administrator.
