Comoros: now « delivering as one »
The Union of Comoros has become the latest country to “deliver as one” as part of the UN reform process.
Through this approach, the UN in Comoros will bring together the strengths of all UN agencies to enhance its service delivery and help the country to accelerate its progress toward achieving the MDGs.
The UN has been present in the country for thirty years. The priorities of the UN in the country are: economic growth and fighting poverty; governance; provision of basic social services (health, education, sanitation); environment and sustainable development.
In addition, through the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund, the United Nations provides significant support to the peace and national cohesion process.
From 5 to 6 November, UN agencies met to define and align their priorities with those of the government’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper for 2010-2014.
The Union of Comoros is a Small Island Developing State. Due to its low integration into the global economy, the Comoros are only beginning to be seriously affected by the economic and financial crisis.
