Helen Clark made her second visit to Washington, D.C., as UNDP Administrator this week, where she kicked off the Women’s Foreign Policy Group’s “Women in Power” luncheon series with keynote remarks discussing the challenges to development in the midst of the global recession.

The Administrator also met with Senator Richard Lugar and Congresswomen Nita Lowey and Kay Granger. Obama Administration officials Lael Brainard (Undersecretary for International Affairs, Department of the Treasury), Jack Lew (Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources) and Melane Verveer (Ambassador for Women’s Issues, Department of State) also held meetings with Helen during her two-day trip.

In addition, Helen was hosted for a meeting with NGO and think tank representatives at the U.S. Institute of Peace, where they discussed issues critical to UNDP and United States development priorities.
