    UN Secretary-General appoints Sigrid Kaag of the Netherlands as Special Coordinator of the OPCW-United Nations Joint Mission

    New York --United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the appointment of Sigrid Kaag of the Netherlands as Special Coordinator of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)-United Nations Joint Mission to eliminate the chemical weapons programme of the Syrian Arab Republic. The appointment has been made in close consultations with OPCW Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü.

    More than 22 parliamentarians from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries met this week in Brasilia to breathe new life into efforts to enhance political participation by the youth of the region. The forum, “Youth and political participation in decision-making” took place on October 1-3 in Brasilia . It brought together political leaders and lawmakers from across the political spectrum - Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Costa Rica to Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay, not to mention young men and women from the region.
