Learning and Capacity Development

UNDP has been a leader in staff capacity development for gender mainstreaming. UNDP was the first UN agency to define the competencies required to work for gender equality, and elaborate on how to develop them. UNDP has developed gender mainstreaming learning materials that combine staff development with knowledge management. Recently, UNDP developed a self-learning virtual academy that includes foundational and advanced courses on gender mainstreaming.

This Information Pack is intended for use both as a basic resource on gender mainstreaming for the interested reader or for use in a training setting. It has been developed to reflect UNDP’s needs in particular, especially those of gender focal points in UNDP country offices, but we hope that it will have wider utility. The organization's new corporate strategy on gender is designed to integrate the promotion of women's empowerment and equality fully in the organization's core business.
