Accountability

UNDP is integrating accountability for gender equality results within its strengthened overall accountability framework. The key components of this framework include:

  • The Gender Steering and Implementation Committee (GSIC): It is the highest decision-making body on gender mainstreaming within UNDP with responsibility for policy setting and oversight of all offices. Chaired by the Administrator, the GSIC is the main institutional mechanism by which the Administrator can build senior leadership and commitment to gender equality in UNDP.

  • Result Competency Framework: Starting in 2009, all managers report one mandatory key result on gender equality and gender parity.

  • Tracking gender-related allocations and expenditure in Atlas: The gender marker of Atlas facilitates UNDP in the assessment of the gender equality impact of programme resource allocations and expenditure including UN managed funds, in particular UNDG Multi-Donor Trust Funds.

  • Indicators: UNDP has established more than 15 core indicators to measure gender issues. The indicators take into account many actors and aspects (e.g. gender parity, work life balance, staff perceptions, capacities in terms of organizational structure, et cetera).

This volume of Progress of the World’s Women demon- strates that the MDGs and other international commitments to women will only be met if gender-responsive accountability systems are put in place both nationally and internationally. more
