The Republic of Korea-UNDP MDG Trust Fund supports ten country projects and six global projects that seek to improve livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable. The Fund supports innovative, catalytic and sustainable approaches for multiplier effects and accelerated progress towards MDG achievement. It also supports UNDP’s efforts to build and lead a strategic coalition of partners to shape the post-2015 development agenda through global mobilization and engagement.

Through the Trust Fund, UNDP is scaling up targeted interventions that improve economic livelihoods and MDG-based service delivery by:

  • Training lowest-income and vulnerable populations in Colombia for employment and income generation opportunities.
  • Supporting the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in building local infrastructure and delivering improved services for women and youth.
  • Improving savings-led financial services for women and youth in Rwanda.
  • Expanding water and sanitation services to the most isolated and impoverished groups of rural Mongolia.
  • Supporting the engagement and integration of cooperatives, self-help groups, household-based producers and more in Timor-Leste and promoting high impact social enterprises.
  • Building capacity of national election management bodies in Nigeria.

In post-conflict/disaster regions, the Trust Fund is supporting community recovery by:

  • Providing vocational training and financial support to vulnerable women in Haiti for employment and business creation.
  • Training youth volunteers in Darfur, Sudan, to promote local entrepreneurship, access to microfinance, value chains, natural resource management, and climate change adaptation.
  • Providing basic social services and employment opportunities for youth and former combatants in North Kivu, the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At the global level, the Trust Fund supportied UNDP’s efforts to build the post-2015 development agenda through open and inclusive national consultations. In particular, Republic of Korea’s intellectual leadership has facilitated discussions on implementation mechanisms of the post- 2015 development agenda. An additional global project provides overall policy guidance and support for global advocacy for projects supported by the Trust Fund.
