In line with UNDP’s renewed focus on sustainable livelihoods, poverty reduction, inclusive growth, environmental sustainability and resilience, the Global Policy Centre on Resilient Ecosystems and Desertification (GC-RED) undertakes and supports applied research and analysis, and compile and disseminate evidence on socio-ecological and biophysical resilience building in drylands and fragile ecosystems.

GC-RED works in close collaboration with relevant partners to test various options to address livelihoods and resilience challenges facing drylands and other fragile ecosystems. The Centre also promotes south-south cooperation and the sharing, exchange and co-creation of knowledge and contributes to the global dialogue on the sustainable use of natural capital and on social and ecological resilience.
