SSMart for SDGs

Why do we need SSMART for SDGs?

The world has adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an agenda calling for a new and inclusive global partnership, of which South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSC and TrC) forms an integral part. The SDG 17 on “Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development”, in particular, places emphasis on the critical role of SSC and TrC in achieving this ambitious development agenda and also highlights the need to enhance knowledge sharing through improved coordination.

Knowledge gaps and uneven access to solutions and resources are obstacles that hinder progress and the full realization of the SSC potential and its impact on sustainable development. These considerations point to a need to have a systematic approach in order to scale and fully leverage the South-South cooperation framework to advance development goals of a country

In order to better support SSC and TrC and as part of the Corporate Strategy on South-South and Triangular cooperation, UNDP introduced SSMART for SDGs —a global marketplace and an end-to-end service that provides easy and broad access to demands and supply in development solutions to address challenges in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

How does SSMart for SDGs Work?

  • We enable partners to post demands, search for solutions, share solutions and collaborate.
  • We help our partners assess demands and facilitate collaboration between partners seeking a solution and partners sharing a corresponding solution.
  • We provide advisory services to partners, including resources and expertise for feasibility studies, adaptation of solutions for a specific context, project implementation, monitoring and impact assessments.
  • We encourage partners to share solutions, post their demands and proactively seek collaborative opportunities and partnerships in order to create a vibrant marketplace of ideas, expertise, knowledge and technologies.
