Port-au-Prince - The Government of Brazil  contributed an additional  US$300,000 to UNDP to support the second round of legislative and presidential elections which will take place on March 20th throughout Haiti.

H. E. Antonio Patriota,  Brazilian Minister for  External Relations handed over a cheque to Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, UNDP Associate Administrator  who is currently on a three-day visit to the country.

UNDP manages the funds from the international community in support of elections.  The project assures the provision of sensitive and non-sensitive materials, payroll management for core electoral functions and the provision of technical support.  UNDP supports the process in partnership with MINUSTAH, the OAS and bilateral donors.  Last week, the Provisional Electoral Council announced it needed an additional US$2.4 million, including a deficit of $1.2 million from the first round, to organize the second round.
