United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) personnel working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) were among those killed in a plane crash in Kinshasa on Monday.

The plane, returning to the capital from Kisangani, was carrying 29 passengers, including members of UNDP, UN Volunteers and other UN entities.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life today,” said UNDP Administrator Helen Clark.

“On behalf of UNDP, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families and friends of those who perished and salute the many dedicated personnel working with the people of DRC. We grieve with all our colleagues in DRC today.”

Helen Clark also expressed her appreciation to the DRC authorities for providing immediate assistance, and for the many expressions of sympathy received by UNDP.
