Document Summary

Over the past five years, Ethiopia's economic growth has led to increased incomes and better access to healthcare and education for its people. Yet, poverty is a persistent challenge and continues to be exacerbated by the country's vulnerability to natural disasters and changing rain patterns.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is working with the Government of Ethiopia to promote pro-poor growth and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. In doing so, UNDP has helped to implement numerous successful initiatives to protect Ethiopia's environment and reduce poverty within the country. UNDP has also worked to build governance capacity in Ethiopia, helping to strengthen electoral systems, decentralize government power, and create an inter-party dialogue among Ethiopia's Members of Parliament.
