Document Summary

The Doha Review Conference on Financing for Development, which took place in November/December 2008, examined the impact of the global financial crisis on development. Having spread across the entire globe, the crisis requires a multilateral approach to recovery that represents not just the economies of developed countries, but the world's poorest populations as well, who are particularly vulnerable to the negative impact of this universal crisis.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is well place to facilitate the kind of multilateral approach needed, and can play a critical role in transforming development finance into development results. In doing so, it has addressed development issues pertaining to the key focus areas of its work: capacity development, poverty reduction, democratic governance, crisis prevention and recovery, energy and environment, and Millennium Development Goal (MDG) achievement.
