Fast Facts: Livelihoods and Economic Recovery
In developing countries, disasters and conflicts can shatter people's already precarious livelihoods, exacerbating poverty, and stalling or reversing long-term growth.
Businesses, especially small businesses, crops and critical infrastructure, such as markets, roads and bridges may be destroyed or damaged. When this is combined with displacement, violence or loss of dwellings, it can be devastasting for an affected population.
In order to facilitate early recovery from disaster or conflict, UNDP works with national or international partners to help affected communities take the first steps back towards development, focussing on three core areas (1) livelihoods stabilization, (2) local economic recovery and reintegration, and (3) long-term recovery and inclusive growth
