The Philippines: Tackling the Poverty and Social Impacts of the Economic Crisis

This study explores the social impact of the global economic crisis by systematically examining the evidence and recent data in the Philippines. Due to a confluence of factors the Philippine economy, unlike many of the major economies in the East Asian region, did not enter recession during the global economic crisis. Drawing on empirical analysis and policy lessons the study puts forth recommendations toward improved poverty-mitigating responses to financial and economic shocks.
