Environmental and Social Screening Procedure for UNDP Projects

02 Mar 2014

The Environmental and Social Screening Procedure was incorporated into UNDP’s Programme and Operations Policies and Procedures (POPP) in 2012 to further enhance environmental and social sustainability of UNDP projects. It is mandatory for all proposed projects with a budget of $500,000 or more. The screening process helps determine if there are any potential impacts and how these should be addressed, providing UNDP staff with a set of tools and guidance to strategically design and implement quality projects.  The screening procedure will be revised in 2014 to align with UNDP’s Social and Environmental Standards (currently being developed) and to respond to lessons learned.
