Effective development co-operation
At the core of UNDP’s efforts to support effective development co-operation are the internationally-agreed development effectiveness principles: country ownership over the development process; inclusive partnerships; a focus on results; and transparency and mutual accountability among partners.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda require strengthened partnership and co-operation frameworks, which take into account the ever-expanding diversity of development resources, and include an improvement in both their quantity and quality.
UNDP supports countries by helping them to make the best use of all available resources to realize their own national development goals. For example, UNDP focuses on supporting countries’ policy and institutional mechanisms to enhance the synergy, complementarity and quality of development co-operation and partnerships. In particular, we provide catalytic support for strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships for development impact through Development Finance Assessments (DFAs); country-led monitoring on effectiveness of co-operation, and strengthening information management systems on development co-operation.
In partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), UNDP, as the custodian agency for SDG 17 - Indicators on global partnerships, supports the country-led monitoring framework of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation, a tool to spark dialogue between stakeholders and foster accountability between development partners at global, regional and country levels.
