“We’ll be planting 70 trees for 70 years of the United Nations and our slogan here is “A strong United Nations leads to a better world.” Let me just talk a little bit about what 2015 is bringing for the world. The world leaders have called for a very ambitious long-term agenda for sustainable development so that our development around the world is promoting social, economic and environment development together. And in September there will be a summit of world leaders at the United Nations where we’ll all initiative the Sustainable Development Goals. This will be the theme that will be convening various meetings throughout the United Nations anniversary throughout this year. And here in Kazakhstan we are very happy that the government and people of Kazakhstan are firmly behind the sustainable development agenda for the future,” said the UN Resident Coordinator Stephen Tull.
The event also marked the “National Forest Planting Day”, an environmental event on greening, held annually in spring and fall throughout the country with the participation of regional authorities, environmentally responsible businesses and volunteers.
The planting of 1 000 seedlings will not only decorate the aesthetic appearance of the city, but also will be another significant contribution of schoolchildren and public figures in the formation of the capital’s green fund, and formation of green culture
Representatives of diplomatic missions, members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of state bodies, UN staff, culture and sport figures, NGO leaders, honorary citizens of the capital, youth leaders, students as well as teachers and students of the Nazarbayev intellectual school participated in the event.
