OUR WORK - GENDER EQUALITY & WOMEN´S EMPOWERMENT
Gender Equality & Women's Empowerment

Although Uganda has made considerable strides in gender equality, especially manifest in the proportion of women national legislators at 34.9 percent - higher than the world average of 19.47 percent - there is still a challenge to empower women at domestic levels. Maternal mortality rates are still high, with 16 women who die while giving birth every day. UNDP is working for the making of gender-sensitive policies budgeting and economic plans, while supporting social and economic empowerment of women at grassroots.
