OUR WORK - WOMEN´S EMPOWERMENT

Although Uganda has made considerable strides in gender equality, especially manifest in the proportion of women national legislators at 34.9 percent - higher than the world average of 19.47 percent - there is still a challenge to empower women at domestic levels. Maternal mortality rates are still high, with 16 women who die while giving birth every day. UNDP supports the government to create gender-sensitive policies, budgeting and economic plans. It also works towards social and economic empowerment of women at grassroots.
