    UNDP encourages women participation in politics

    The Local Politics Workshops of "Women in Local Politics and Decision Making" project took place in Şanlıurfa on 6-7 February 2009. The project, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), directly executed by UNDP as the implementing agency with the technical expertise of Ankara branch of the Association for Supporting and Training Women Candidates (KA-DER), aims to build capacities of women politicians and activists and promote their engagement and leadership into policy-making processes.

    HIV: A challenge faced by all society

    The Regional Human Development Report “Living with HIV in Eastern Europe and the CIS - the Human Cost of Social Exclusion”, produced by UNDP in collaboration with researchers from Oxford University and local social research institutes and organisations of people living with HIV, was presented in Ankara on 6 February 2009 at a meeting attended by the officials from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, universities, related civil society organisations and the UN agencies in Turkey. The report was based on research conducted in Estonia, Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

    Wheat farmers in Erzurum take action to protect local zerun, kırik, şigon wheat species and küşne, külür, zegerek fodder plants. The aim of the project “Sustainable and Effective Usage of Resources in the Production of Local Zerun, Kırik, Şigon Organic Wheat” is to prevent wheat breeds and fodder plants from extinction, to protect these local breeds in the regional ecosystem and in situ and to ensure sustainable and effective usage of water resources.
