Our work in Environment and Energy

Timor-Leste is a small island with a fragile natural resource base. Rising sea levels, high climatic variability as well as the predicted increasing intensity of extreme weather has the potential to threaten both growth and development throughout the country. The related and increasing risks of drought, flooding, erosion and landslides further threaten vulnerable rural populations. UNDP’s environment programme supports the Government’s response to its multilateral environment agreements, ensures environmental issues are integrated into policy development and national planning, and provides access to sustainable energy in vulnerable communities.
