    UNDP Report lists Thailand among Asia’s fastest growing

    Thailand makes UNDP’s list of “high achievers” in East Asia—a group that includes China, Indonesia, Viet Nam, and Malaysia. The rapid human development progress of Thailand and Asia-Pacific nations are helping drive a historic shift, with hundreds of millions of people lifted from poverty and billions poised to join the South’s fast-growing middle class, according to the 2013 Human Development Report, which was launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on March 14 in Mexico City.

    More than 1,500 university students to rally on Anti-Corruption Day

    To encourage the Thai public to “Refuse to be Corrupt,” the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Thai Youth Anti-Corruption Network will hold a major rally at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) this Sunday, December 9, International Anti-Corruption Day. More than 1,500 students from across Thailand will gather in front of the BACC at 3 p.m.

    Workshop to build health care capacity for HIV-related treatment in four ASEAN countries

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA), and the National Health Security Office will host a regional workshop for health experts in Bangkok 26-29 November to examine Thailand’s landmark Universal Health Coverage (UHC) programme, with an aim to build capacity in their respective countries on HIV/AIDS treatment and care services.

    In late 2011, flood waters swept through Thailand, affecting more than 11 million people. A year has passed since floodwaters inundated most of the country and metropolitan Bangkok, but the Royal Thai Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are determined to make the heavy toll of natural disasters a thing of the past. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and UNDP have launched a new initiative to boost the capacity of the Department to be able to respond to large-scale floods and other natural disasters.

    UNDP offers six-point plan to fast-track women in politics in Asia-Pacific

    BANGKOK— It will take 50 years for gender balance to be achieved in Asia-Pacific national legislatures if the increase in women’s participation in parliaments remains at the current pace, says a UN Development Programme (UNDP) study released this week. Economic progress will be limited without equal opportunity for men and women to influence political and economic decision-making, according to the report, which offers a six-step action plan to fast-track women into politics.
