    A step in the right direction for human rights in Tanzania

    Under international human rights conventions that Tanzania has ratified, state organs are bound to uphold human rights including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, implementation of Tanzania’s international human rights obligations remains fragile due to capacity weaknesses in the justice system and delays in incorporating human rights into national laws, among other obstacles.

    UNDP and Government Sign Agreement to Support Preparations for the 2015 General Election.

    The United Nations Development Programme, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) today signed an agreement to provide USD 22.5 million support to prepare for the 2015 general election.
