The Rural Growth Programme (RGP) is funded by Department of International Development of the UK Government (DFID), UNDP and German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and was jointly initiated in 2010. It was successfully implemented during 2010 – 2013 in Sughd oblast with the major focus on improving conditions and environment for local economic development, support to income generation and job creation for women and vulnerable groups. Successful implementation of two previous phases enabled UNDP to receive additional funds from DFID for the implementation of third phase of Trust Funds mechanism in 2014-2015.
The implementation of this sub project was enabled
through established Trust Fund mechanism under the Rural Growth Programme
implemented in Sughd Oblast. District level Trust Funds were established by
UNDP jointly with the Executive Body of State Power in Sughd Oblast for
ensuring sustainable development of local economy through selection and
implementation of the projects included into district and jamoat development
programs. One of the features of this mechanism is that the local authorities
and local communities co-share the cost of the projects with UNDP. It is worth
to be mentioned that this project was accomplished with a contribution of local
community for more than sixty percent of the total cost.
