UNDP is concerned about the participatory, transparent and accountable nature of Good Governance. Good governance is effective, equitable and promotes rule of law. It also ensures that political, social and economic priorities are based on broad consensus in society and that the voices of the poorest and the most vulnerable are heard in decision-making over the allocation of development resources. UNDP considers democratic governance to be central to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, as it provides the enabling environment for the elimination of poverty. Recognizing that government’s capacity to develop and implement reforms is a developing capability, UNDP interventions in Tajikistan focus mainly on building capacity of government stakeholders and reinforcing national and local level institutions.
