    The UN has provided the first part of the assistance to Serbia in the amount of US $1.8 million

    The United Nations has received additional US $ 1.8 million in response to the floods that have hit Serbia in mid-May. The funding comes from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) in order to provide support to the people from areas affected by the floods.

    Number of criminal charges against perpetrators in domestic violence doubled

    According to Institute for Social Policy, Centers for Social Work (CSW) registered 9877 cases of domestic violence in 2013. This represents almost 6% increase in comparison to 2012. The share of women victims of violence is significantly higher than of men -70% and 30% respectively.

    Roma Narratives

    Since 2006, UNDP has been supporting establishment of positions of Roma coordinators in Serbian municipalities. This resulted in creation of a network of 47 municipal Roma coordinators at local level, hired as full time staff in local self-governments, working on temporary contracts or as volunteers.

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with CeSID LtD, presented the Eighth Corruption Benchmarking Survey at today’s press conference in the Media Centre Belgrade. This research cycle confirmed the optimism and a conviction of citizens that the authorities intend to curb corruption. However, the living standard, unemployment and poverty have again diverted attention of citizens away from corruption. Corruption fell third on the list of the most important problems which citizens face.
