    Vlasina lake project to guide new partnerships with the corporate sector in ecotourism promotion

    UNDP Makes Protected Areas Fun for Hiking - A Step for Sustainable Development

    UNDP Serbia is helping Serbia to provide more sustainability to its protected areas by promoting greater use of its natural treasures for tourists locally and from abroad. The opening of hiking trails in these areas is part of that effort. Through the GEF funded project “Ensuring financial sustainability of the protected area system of Serbia”, UNDP has launched pilot activities, to increase the development of nature-based tourism and self-sufficiency of non-timber forest resources in four national parks and six other protected areas. In addition, the UNDP project is meant to improve the accessibility of protected areas to enable people with disabilities to enjoy nature while learning about the environment.

    UN Global Compact Event

    Serbia’s Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the UN in Serbia held a conference to acknowledge the role of Serbian companies in response to the historic floods in May that caused unprecedented damage to Serbian towns and cities. After more than 4 months of recovery efforts the Serbian government is working with Serbian companies to rebuild affected municipalities in which more than 40,000 people were left homeless or had damaged homes, in addition to extensive damage that was done to property and the environment.

    UNDP Celebrates “Our Streets, Our Choice” for EMW in Belgrade

    UNDP in Serbia celebrated European Mobility Week (EMW) with the city of Belgrade and the EU delegation to Serbia on Saturday, Sept. 20, as cyclists staged a rally from the heart of the city and schoolchildren displayed drawings of the “green” Belgrade they want to live in. As part of a campaign throughout Europe to encourage local authorities to promote sustainable transport, and to encourage the public to use alternatives to cars, Belgrade joined hundreds of cities and towns to mark this annual event. The UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia Irena Vojackova-Sollorano appeared with the UN partners, Belgrade city authorities and the EU delegation representative to Serbia Jose Gomez, to congratulate winners of the nationwide drawing contest and to promote cycling, highlighting this year’s theme, “Our streets, our choice”.

    Workshop dedicated to climate change, under the Second National Communication of the Republic of Serbia to UNFCCC held in Tara Mountain

    Goal of the first, out of three awareness raising workshops, was to increase the level of knowledge amongst stakeholders at national and local level in relation to climate change policies and programmes in Serbia with an eye towards their future involvement in development and implementation of climate change policies and programmes within their respective communities – potentially providing input into national-level policies and programmes as well as developing local actions to support national targets.

    Vlasina Award of Excellence

    On 13 December, UNDP in Serbia and Coca-Cola System organized "Vlasina Award of Excellence" in the Palace of Serbia. Students from seven Serbian faculties of tourism: Faculty of Economics from Subotica, Faculty of Economics from Belgrade, Faculty for Tourism and Hotel Management, University of Singidunum, Faculty for Tourism and Sport TIMS, University Educons, Faculty for Hospitality and Tourism from Vrnjacka Banja, Department for Geography, Tourism and Hotel Management, University of Novi Sad and Business College from Novi Sad, presented their 2020 vision of Vlasina as an eco - tourist destination.

    European Mobility Week 2013

    The European Mobility Week (EMW) was celebrated in Belgrade from 16 to 22 September 2013. EMW is a campaign dedicated to sustainable urban mobility, organized annually with the support of the Directorates-General for the Environment and Transport of the European Commission. This year’s EMW was the third campaign in a raw organized by the “Support to Sustainable Transport in the City of Belgrade”, project implemented by UNDP, Ministry of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection and the City of Belgrade. The theme of the EMW was “Clean Air – It’s Your Move!”
