UNDP Congratulates Korea on Independence Day

Aug 15, 2012

Speaking on the occasion of Korea's Independence Day, Anne-Isabelle Blateau, Director of the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre, said:

'On behalf of the United Nations Development Programme in the Republic of Korea I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the Korean people on this special day.

Since independence, Korea has risen to a modern, dynamic and globally minded nation. Where once Korea was dependent on support from the international community, it now provides it.

For more than 40 years, UNDP supported the people and Government of Korea on their unique development path, providing over $100 million in support and 275 programmes in areas such as industry, science and technology, agriculture and social development.

Today, the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre works with Korea to share its successful development lessons with other developing nations.

To the people of the Republic of Korea, I wish you the very best on this special day and in the year to come'.
