Green Growth

Korea enacted a Framework Act on Low Carbon Green Growth, the first law of its kind in the world, and released the first ever  National Strategy for Green Growth and Five-Year Plan for Green Growth in 2009.

The National Strategy for Green Growth envisages three main objectives and ten policy directions, based on a consensus between social, business, academic and government stakeholders. The three objectives include mitigation of climate change and the strengthening of the country’s energy independence, creation of new growth engines, improvement in the quality of people’s lives and enhancement of Korea’s international standing.

Key Coordination Body

The PCGG works to spread the vision of low-carbon green growth to all sectors of society. To this end the Committee works on policies, supports technology, urban planning and other areas to bring the vision to life.

The Global Green Growth Institute is Korea’s flagship organization providing policy advice and solutions to Korea and the worlds Green growth challenges 

At Rio +20, it was elevated to the status of and International Organization

The KEKO works to ensure environmental and resource sustainability and a green national development model by helping prevent pollution, improve the environment and ensure sustainable use of natural resources. 

KEMCO seeks to implement projects efficiently for the rationalization of energy use, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emission and contributing to the sound development of the national economy.

KETI supports development of green technologies including through financing specific projects, providing specialist training and new environmental technology verification as well as working to boost global collaboration.

The KEI works to influence national environmental policy through innovative environmental research and environmental impact assessments.

Non-Governmental Organisations

The GIR is a greenhouse gas inventory hub and greenhouse gas mitigation research think tank.

Green Start is a nationwide movement towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the non-industry sector through the participation and actions of citizens. The movement has been initiated in October 2008 with the foundation of the Green Start National Network.
