As part of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) based in Samoa that covers the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tokelau, the UNDP MCO in Samoa contributes significantly to MDGs advocacy, achievement and monitoring through four key UNCT programmes;

1) the National MDGs Programmes in the Cook Islands, Niue and Samoa;
2) the Regional and National UN Pacific Sports and MDGs Programmes;
3) the UN HIV/AIDS programme; and
4) the TALAVOU – UN and Government of Samoa Joint Youth Programme.

For all the four programmes, the UNDP Samoa MCO provides the main funding and operational support that enables the implementation, monitoring and reporting of the UNCT MDGs programmes.

The UNDP MCO Samoa also provides regular feedback that incorporates information from the national Governments to update the MDG Monitor, a global Millennium Development Goals tracking system, which has been created by UNDP in partnership with the Statistics Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Relief Web of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), that provides information on progress towards the MDGs, globally and at the country level.  The MDG Profile in the MDG Monitor was last updated for Samoa and Niue in September 2008 and for the Cook Islands in August 2008 (click on each country for links to the MDG Profile or follow the links below)."
