I'm Marina Olshanskaya, and I work on sustainable energy and climate change along the ancient Silk Road: from Central Asia, through the Southern Caucasus to the Western Balkans

My main areas of expertise:

  1. 1.  Energy efficiency, security and affordability
  2. 2.  Energy and local development

My work

I'm helping UNDP’s partners to understand complex climate finance landscape and access resources from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), Green Climate Fund (GCF) and other sources. I work with UNDP Country Offices to design and implement projects that promote energy efficiency, renewable energy, as well as climate-friendly and resilient urban infrastructure. I'm also proud to be part of the United Nations global team working on the Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All initiative.

I primarily work in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia&Herzehovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Some recent achievements

2012-2014 Led the design and helped secure funding for UNDP-GEF project “Montenegro: Towards Carbon Neutral Tourism”, which seeks to minimize the carbon footprint of country’s main economic sector, the tourism.

2013-2014 Facilitated partnership with Azerbaijan State Oil Company SOCAR for implementation of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) in Azerbaijan’s energy end-use sectors

2013-2014 Helped formulate and obtain financing for 15 Urban NAMAs in Kazakhstan which will contribute to achieving the country’s GHG emission reduction voluntary target while improving urban services and the quality of life of citizens in Kazakh towns and cities

2011 Initiated a portfolio of projects on energy efficiency in the building sector for Central Asia and Armenia, which transformed construction policies and practices in favour of more (40 percent and above) energy efficient buildings. More about the portfolio at www.beeca.net
