    Increasing access to sustainable energy - OFID contributes to UNDP’s initiative on renewable energy in Gaza

    Strengthening health systems in Sudan

    At the Central Medical Supplies warehouse in North Khartoum: 2.7 million USD worth of medical equipment was officially handed over from UNDP to the federal and State Ministries of Health. The equipment donated by the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, included Lab and IT equipment as well as 22 vehicles to upgrade andsupport 19 Medical Laboratories, 5 Rural Hospitals and 25 Health Care Centers across the country. The vehicles and IT equipments are intended to strengthen the health management teams at the locality levels.

    Clean-up campaign in Kurani Ainkawa

    UNDP Iraq gathered over 100 children from Kurani Ainkawa to clean-up their neighbourhood. Kurani Ainkawa is a poor and socially conservative area at the heart of Erbil.     The Government of Japan and UNDP handed over houses to families in Gaza

    Gaza – Today 120 families are the proud owners of houses handed over to them by the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme in Khan Younis. Mr Hideaki Yamamoto, Deputy Representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority, Yasmine Sherif, UNDP Deputy Special Representative and representatives from 20 families, attended the ceremony at UNDP offices in Gaza.

    The two-day meeting of Yemen’s donors 4-5 September has demonstrated the commitment of the international community to support Yemen to overcome current development and humanitarian challenges in addition to ensuring the timely and honest implementation of the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, UN Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator said: “The message from the donors was clear, that Yemen deserves urgent support to ensure a successful transition to a stable nation. Several donors highlighted the humanitarian crisis faced by the country and the need to address it.”

    Sustainable energy for the future UNDP signs an agreement to support the Palestinian solar initiative

    The Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority, the Ministry of Planning and Administrative Development and the United Nations Development Programme signed an agreement worth USD 50,000 to support the Palestinian Solar Initiative (PSI). The Initiative addresses social, economic and environmental objectives to tackle poverty and promote sustainable development through an integrated energy solutions model.
