    New partners join reintegration services targeting ex-combatants

    Khartoum, four organizations were selected to became implementing partners of Sudan DDR Commission (SDDRC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to provide income-generating activities to DDR participants in Sudan. Over the next 6 months, implementing partners will provide agriculture, livestock and small business opportunities to a total of 4,775 DDR participants in four states within the Central Sector: Khartoum, North Kordofan, Sennar, and White Nile states.

    UNDP Sudan issues statement regarding media reports on east Sudan

    Khartoum, The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan categorically denies association with information published in several media outlets under the title ‘Sudan: security ‘volcano’ ready to blow in the east,’ No UNDP Sudan staff has made such statements. Journalistic norms, therefore, requires that any media outlet that has published such information should disassociate UNDP from these articles.

    UNDP and Ministry of Oil agree on New Long Term Partnership to Support Skills Development in the Oil and Gas Sector in Iraq

    Baghdad - The United Nations Development Programme and the Iraqi Ministry of Oil have signed a new two-year partnership for skills development and human resources management in the oil and gas sector. This partnership will also help support the expansion of the sector and its ability to create jobs for the rapidly growing Iraqi labour force.

    UNDP provides emergency assistance for Abyan IDPs

    The impact of the unrest situation on social and economic landscape of Abyan has been dramatic and devastating. According to the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), close to 90,000 persons were forced to flee outside the conflict area as Internal Displaced Peoples (IDPs). Abyan governorate had the lion-share of IDPs, with just over forty thousand displaced in the governorate. Half of them took refuge in the schools and public premises in Aden, looking for any life-saving and critical support that would help them cope with their displacement and decrease their vulnerability.

    Norwegian government provides support to UNDP

    The Government of Norway today signed an agreement worth $345,000 with the United Nations Development Programme for its Family Support, Justice and Security Programme. The funding will be used to enhance the capacities of Iraqi civil society organisations to provide legal assistance to vulnerable communities in Iraq, with a particular focus on women and children survivors of gender based violence as well as early and forced marriages. This support will be provided through family protection centres which are being established throughout the country.

    Three hundred thousand Dollars funding from the Swiss Embassy to support the “Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee”

    The UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Marta Ruedas, the Ambassador of the Switzerland in Lebanon, H.E. Ms. Ruth Flint and the LPDC President Me. Maya Majzoub signed an Agreement to support the UNDP project “Support to the Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee” funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for a total amount of 300 thousand dollars. The ceremony took place on Friday 26th of November at 9:30am at the Swiss Embassy premises in Ashrafieh (Bourj El Ghazal building, 14th floor).

    New agreement promotes conflict sensitive programming in Iraq’s disputed internal boundaries areas

    UNDP and IOM have signed a Letter of Agreement to undertake work in support of a Peace and Development Analysis, a joint project between UNDP and the Inter-Agency Information and Analysis Unit. The project seeks to understand the context-specific drivers of conflict and relevant development priorities in the Disputed Internal Boundaries (DIBs) areas in northern Iraq. It will provide first-hand information and analysis to ensure that development programming conducted in these areas by UN agencies is sensitive to local needs and priorities.

    The governments of India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA), through UNDP inaugurate the first project in the Middle East

    Ramallah – Foreign Ministers of India, Brazil and South Africa inaugurated today a multipurpose new sports centre implemented through UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People. This is the first IBSA project in the Middle East and is a pioneering initiative to enhance cooperation amongst developing countries in the fight against hunger and poverty.

    Central bureau of statistics and UNDP hold a launching event for the preparation of a national strategy for the development of statistics

    Khartoum - Under the auspices of 1st Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, the Central Bureau of Statistics and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched an Event on October 31st, 2011 aimed at setting the stage for the preparation of a National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) for the Republic of Sudan (2012-2016). The preparation of this strategy is expected to bring on board all stakeholders in statistical development and address the data gaps for the design, management, monitoring and evaluation of national development, policy frameworks, Poverty Reduction Strategies (PRSs) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
