UNV launches first Volunteer Management Training of Trainers for 30 civil society representatives in the Arab region

07 Oct 2013

Rabat - The Arab Youth Volunteering for a Better Future project, under the umbrella of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, launches the first regional “Volunteer Management Training of Trainers”.

Starting today in Rabat, Morocco, the workshop aims to strengthen the capacities of civil society organizations in the Arab region.

With the objective of empowering organizations from five countries (Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen), the training contributes to improving volunteer management and enhancing the value of volunteer work in the region.

The participants represent 15 of the most engaged civil society organizations in terms of volunteerism, with a demonstrated commitment to the social development of their communities. To help ensure the sustainability of this initiative, the trainees will be in charge of replicating their acquired skills, having committed to training other organizations once they return to their countries.

The workshop covers three principal aspects: First, it introduces the concept of volunteerism and its role in society, emphasizing on the mutually beneficial relationship between the volunteer and the organization. Second, it focuses on the management of volunteers, explaining how to plan a volunteer programme, run successful recruitments and trainings, and ensure a positive relationship between volunteers and staff. Finally, the session provides the participants with the tools and expertise necessary to conduct further trainings in their home countries.

The initiative is carried out under Arab Youth Volunteering for a Better Future, a UNV-led regional project that seeks to support youth to effectively engage in the development processes of their countries through volunteerism. The training is part of the project’s efforts to strengthen the capacity of youth organizations.  The Arab Youth Volunteering for a Better Future project is part of UNV’s growing efforts to engage young people, and falls within its UN Youth Volunteers Programme.

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide.

Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation.
