Clean-up campaign in Kurani Ainkawa
UNDP Iraq gathered over 100 children from KuraniAinkawa to clean-up their neighbourhood.
Kurani Ainkawa is a poor and socially conservative area at the heart of Erbil. UNDP Iraq is supporting the community to improve its accessibility to basic and social services and improve its socio-economic opportunities.
The children came from different areas of Kurani Ainkawa to collect rubbish which covers the entire neighbourhood. They enthusiastically set about their work and it wasn’t long before they had cleared the entire site.
Community leaders, who consist of mainly women from the area, were influential in the organisation of this campaign. It was their first event as leaders, after being identified through focus group sessions to represent the community’s social needs, as well as to manage the Multi-Purpose Hall which UNDP Iraq will help build
The project is implemented in partnership with UN-Habitat, with funding from the Korean Government through the Iraq Trust Fund. Additional funding has been provided by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Planning to further support the improvement of the neighbourhood.
