Launching of the strategic plans to improve the olive and vegetable sectors in Akkar

  The Millennium Development Goals Achievement  Fund (MDGF) funded by the Spanish Government, is organizing a launching ceremony of the Strategic Plans to improve the Olive and Vegetable sectors in Akkar border area on Wednesday 20th of July at 12:30pm at the Quality Inn hotel in Tripoli. The ceremony will also include distribution of award certificates to the participants in the training programme on local socio economic development. 

Mr. Nazem Hmedeh representing the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan will attend the event along Mrs. Denise Dahrouj representing the Minister of Labor Dr. Charbel Nahhas, UNDP’s Country Director Mr. Seifeddine Abbaro, and representatives from the following UN agencies: ILO, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNRWA and UNESCO in addition to Akkar mayors, agricultural cooperatives and the trainees. 

In the context of the Joint Programme, “Conflit Prevention and Peace Building” programme for North Lebanon, local society representatives from the Sahel and Dreib regions participated in a training on the local socio economic development from January till May 2011. 

The trainees conducted a survey on the olive and vegetables sectors on which they developed the Strategic Plans to improve these sectors. A copy of the Strategic Plans will be disseminated to the public after the ceremony.
