Awards giving ceremony on the occasion of World AIDS Day

On the occasion of World AIDS DAY, the National AIDS Control Program- Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Soins Infirmiers et Développement Communautaire (SIDC) and supported by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), organised the Awards Giving Ceremony for the Radio/TV and Journalist Competitions at the Lebanese Order of Physicians Al- Tahwita, Furn El-Chebeck.

The slogan of the competitions is “AID, Don’t Discriminate”. As the competitions main aim is to help decrease the stigma and discrimination that People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) face and to help pave the way towards their access to prevention, treatment, care, education, work, etc.

The journalist competition was specific for journalists in the written press, who were encouraged to write an article/report to help raise awareness on the importance of equality between individuals and not stigmatize People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) because of their health status, which is in accordance with Human Rights.

Whereas Radio/TV University students were requested to create a Radio/TV spot and record positive key messages with religious leaders to raise awareness on Human rights for people living with HIV/AIDS.

The aims of these competitions are in line with goal number six of the Millennium Development Goals - Combat HIV/AIDS: Halting and Reversing its spread by 2015.
