UNDP-ART GOLD Lebanon in partnership with the municipality of Sareen El Fawka, and the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will inaugurate the newly equipped primary health care center in Sareen Al Fawka at the primary health care center premises on Thursday September 22nd 2011 at 11:30am sharp. The inauguration will be convened in the presence of Mr. Seifeldin Abbaro, UNDP Country Director, the head of the Eastern Baalbeck Federation, in addition to local officials and representatives from the civil society.

Riyadh, The Solar Arabia Summit sponsored by UNDP which serves as supporting organization and will be hosted by King Saud University during the 23rd and 24th of October 2011. The summit will bring together key policy-makers, government officials, investors and business conglomerates involved in shaping Saudi Arabia's solar energy future. The summit will provide an opportunity to capitalize on the Kingdom's investment of US$100 billion in the solar energy sector and its objective to achieve 5 gigawatts of solar generated power by the year 2020.

Red Sea State first in Sudan to expand role of civil society in budget making and expenditure management
Red Sea State: For the first time in Sudan, a civil society network has been involved in the process of drafting the state budget. To date, the network has expanded community-based budget monitoring to 10 localities in the Red Sea State.

El Fasher – A sensitization programme to disseminate messages on Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) and Small Arms Control was organized yesterday in El Srief locality, situated 45 kilometers North of El Fasher, North Darfur, by African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), UN Development Program (UNDP) and the Sudan DDR Commission (SDDRC); in active coordination with other relevant UN agencies like UNICEF.

Ministry of foreign affairs and emigrants and UNDP sign a new project: support to the second meeting of state parties to the convention on cluster munitions
H.E. Mr. Adnan Mansour, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and the UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Robert Watkins will sign a project document entitled “Support to the Second Meeting of State Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions”. The ceremony will take place today, Wednesday June 22nd at 3:30pm, at the premises of the ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beirut.

EL Geneina, West Darfur- The Sudan DDR Commission (SDDRC) and the UNDP, held the first of three media sensitization workshops in the Darfur region. With over 20 participants representing television, newspaper, radio and other traditional forms of media, the workshop in Geneina set about increasing awareness of local Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) and Community Security and Small Arms Control (CSAC) issues. It also aimed to bring about a greater understanding of the roles they as media can play in being a part of this nationally and locally-owned process.

The UN system launches internal campaign to fight HIV-related stigma and discrimination in the workplace in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Riyadh, the United Nations system is launching on the 8th of June 2011, a global campaign called “Stigma Fuels HIV” aimed to create awareness and to fight against HIV related stigma and discrimination. The UN system strives to become a model workplace in regard to HIV and for this reason it provides continuing training to its employees about HIV prevention, treatment and care options; and it has adopted advanced policies that ensure a fair and respectful environment.

Amman – Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) account for 37% of total employed and 60% of total employment in the private sector in Jordan, spotlights Jordan Human Development Report 2011 launched here today under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma bint Talal, the Honorary Human Development Ambassador for the (UNDP). It shows while MSME’s do contribute toward development in Jordan through employment and empowerment, their contribution can and should be expanded.
