UNDP Seeks to empower civil society in Iraq
UNDP Iraq is launching an opportunity to provide financial support for Iraqi Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to effectively support initiatives that empower citizens to promote and monitor government accountability. Selected CSO consortia will be issued with grants of between $50,000 to $150,000 to implement projects that promote better service delivery, anti-corruption and human and civil rights in Iraq. Approximately one million dollars have been allocated for CSO grant funds.
Under this project, UNDP will work hand in hand with the awarded CSO consortia to build on their potential to deliver projects that leave a positive impact on the daily lives of Iraqi people. Practical and technical support will be provided to participating CSOs on proposal development and project implementation using a mentoring approach.
This initiative is part of the “Empowering CSOs in Iraq” project funded by the Iraq UNDAF Trust Fund with Danish Government funding and implemented in partnership with UNOPS. The project is also supported by the Committee on Civil Society of the Council of Representatives and the Committee on Civil Society Organizations of the Kurdistan Parliament.
